Chris Bowman

Executive Director

Chris was born in New York, NY to a 15 year old mother and then bounced around between orphanages and foster care for his first 11 years.  Experiencing these hardships has made him empathetic to the needs of under privileged children.  Amazingly, he was blessed by being adopted by Walter and Jo An Bowman from Pittsburgh, PA in 1982.  These adopted parents taught him the value of giving back and making a positive impact on the world around him.

As he moved from New York to Pennsylvania to Georgia and finally Southern California he noticed that there were so many run down and unusable playgrounds with broken equipment, run down athletic facilities, and simply unsafe conditions.  Many of these once vibrant recreational facilities became breeding grounds for gangs and delinquent activity.   He thought to himself, “It just doesn’t make sense that these facilities aren’t maintained and need to be restored.”   He dreamed about the day when he could do something to change and help remedy these conditions.  It is disappointing at how many children just do not have access to adequate recreational facilities and programs.  Not only are cities/states running out of funds to properly maintain and restore these facilities, but also it seems that every year we hear about school cut backs that are affecting our music, art, and recreational programs. Many families cannot afford to put their children in after school recreational programs, sport teams, summer camps, or even buy art supplies and musical instruments.

Christopher graduated from the University of Georgia and then worked on his MBA from California State University – Long Beach.  Spending 20+ years in various management and executive roles for marketing/advertising companies, he realized that it was time to put his professional skills to work on fulfilling his dreams of making a positive and lasting impact on the communities around him.  He has served in various roles for the Boys and Girls Club of America, AYSO, Friendship Shelter of Laguna Beach, University of Georgia Alumni Association (Southern California Chapter President) and served as a University of Georgia Rec Sports Official in the 1990s for basketball, flag football, softball, and soccer.  Recreation brings balance to life while teaching you the ability to overcome challenges.
